A seat in the Gaiety Theatre that is either dedicated to itself or possibly to the road between Lincoln and Peterborough...

Castles in the air...
This is another, non-photoshopped picture from the prom.
I love the way the castle floats in the sky.
Magical little island this sometimes...

Dead Man Workin'!
Here on the rock there is a long association with George Formby and leaning on the lamppost (where else?) near the town hall in Douglas there is a statue of the man himself in bike leathers playing a ukulele.
While there was some survey work going on one of the workmen left their theodolite in just the right place for me to grab this spot of George hard at work.

so... measured
Seen in Discount Carpets...
If you can't decide whether to use imperial or metric why not use both?
8 feet x 50cm
**sigh**
How polite...
A while ago there was a spate of minor vandalism in the public loos in Castletown, so somebody has put up the following, INCREDIBLY polite sign...

Where it used to be...
One of the things I have noticed about living here is that the only way to understand the directions you are given is to know where things used to be.
You want to find your way somewhere and the directions are full of such useful snippets as "Where the Arches used to be", "the old Woolworths" or "The old Summerland Site", "The hotel that used to be the Hilton" and "where Lido used to be"
These aren't too bad, but when something moves, it still might not be there for ever and I once heard the following directions to The Laughing Buddah:-
"Where Jurgens used to be, not where it used to used to be be where it used to be now"
Brilliant.

Here is a little picture...
For those looking for fine dining, this is the Food Menu in one of the pubs by the harbour :)
I think it is the wine list that truly inspires...
however, if you want cocktails, the same pub offers the following (where you will also discover the meaning of a Cheeky Bernie)
Car number plate
On the Island all of the number plates have MN or MAN in them and then a series of letters and/or numbers. When you register you can request your own plates.
Some people have already got the best ones, here is the first I saw...
I have not adjusted any of the ones I will put on here, they are all down to the brilliant humour of the Manxies.
First ever blog!
Hello,
My name is Jonty, I have been living on the Isle of Man for just under 2 years.
This is an occasional blog that details some of the wonderful little things that I have found while I have been here.
For those people who don't know, The Isle of Man is an island in the Irish Sea, more or less equidistant from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
It has a history of motorsport with it's famous Tourist Trophy (TT) races, the Manx GP and some ferociously contested rallys.
Now, being new to the 'rock' I am still regarded as a 'comeover'. When I have been here a few more years I will be considered a 'stopover' and I will probably never be treated as truly Manx.
For any Manxies who do reach this page, I should point out that I love it here, anything posted on here is purely done in a good natured way and no offense is meant.
Cheers,
Jonty
